E-stuff: Election, Enlistment, and E-PALS (electronic pals).

31 10 2007

Hello once again. 8) I was not able to update the blog due to three things: Election, Enlistment, and our E-pals (electronic pals).

It was my first time going through an election. The experience was something really note-taking, not because it was my first time or so, but because I can see clearly how horrible it is to vote in the Philippines.Mom drove me to Mayamot Elementary School, and reminded me to look for my polling precinct there. There was a multitude of people still campaigning for their bets, and a sea of litter covered the grounds of the school. A variety of campaign materials were there as well: there were materials as small as a standard wallet being distributed to the walking voters,  and there are materials as big as a 2 ft by 3 ft colored tarpaulin.

I noticed as well this candidate named Justo who ran recently as Barangay Kagawad in this recently-closed poll. This guy who’s running a school ran last May 2007 for a congressional position (if I remember that correctly). I wonder where he’s getting all these money for the campaign. One would only get dizzy looking for their names in the voters’ list. I would like to be a “flying-voter”. I really want to fly so that I may be able to find my name in the voters’ list with haste.  The election could be really of little significance as compared to the controversial 2007 midterm election, but take note that there were political killings present here—small number it may seem, killing is still killing, and this fact is a clear sign of how desperate some Filipinos could be with regard to power, revenge.

Mag-aaral “kuno”

24 10 2007

I am tagging YOU, too. :)

GMs.

Dad has told be few weeks before he left for Japan that Australia and other First World Countries do have the unlimited sneding of sms not as a promo but as a service. You don’t have to register for anything, or key in something and send it to an unknown 3-5 digit number then wait for the confirmation. All you have to do is to text. Yes. Texting, as dad told me, is almost free of charge in other countries. Making a call during hours of broad daylight do have charges as well. The bottomline is that, sending sms messages massively has been present, long before the biggest telecommunication companies presented this idea.

You see, I am fond of subscribing to unlimited “texting” (by the way, is texting a new word already?).I send short messages to my friends and colleagues in an organization and out. The usual stuff, I guess. It’s convenient, actually, if I for example am subscribing with the same network as that of my colleagues. Coming from a broad spectrum, however, I realized that this promo “unlimi-txt” here in the Philippines is rather creating boundaries rather than bridging the gap.

As you have noticed this past few years, the industry of sending SMS massively has gone loco. For as low as Php 15 (I believe that’s not low), I can send SMS to almost anybody subscribing on the same network. If somebody has to text someone outside the network, that person would definitely say “Sorry, naka-unli ako eh (Sorry, I am currently subscribing to the unlimited texting)”. How can one carry out unlimited texting when in fact one is limited to texting on the same network? This hoolabaloo is definitely not unlimited but rather creating a broadedned gap between the networks and thus creating a wide and deep trench among people.
